Amaterasu is the Shinto Sun Goddess - basically the equivalent of Jesus to Christians. Her name literally means "(that which) illuminates Heaven"

The backdrop was painted by me and the kimono designed by me; stitch work by Kyoko, the model. The Japanese flag is actually only the red circle, the one with the rays as depicted here is the military rising sun flag.

very nice composition , for the first secs i really thought it was a painting :D
although... chinese see the japan sun flag almost just like when franch people see a nazi flag........but anyway,its not the point,the point is ,its still a very nice composition overall.

Thanks. I know what you mean about the Japan/China thing, but that's not what this is about. I'll have to do a Chinese fairy-tale some day, I prefer the Chinese culture anyway...
She is indeed a goddess. All of the elements in this are balanced really well. Great photo.
